San Diego-Imperial County has 35 – 40 swim teams compete each summer at the Junior Olympics. The long course Junior Olympics are held annually in late July or early August between all the swim teams in San Diego and Imperial County to crown the team champion each year. Swimmers compete in their own age group starting with 10-unders, 11-12’s, 13-14’s and finally 15-18’s. Swimmers compete over a 4 day championship and the top 8 finishers move on to the finals to determine the individual champion in each event. Swimmers also compete with their teammates on relays (4 swimmers/relay) to determine team champions as well.

North Coast Aquatics has enjoyed a rich tradition of success at the Junior Olympic Championships over the last two decades, being crowned champion at 19 out of the last 20 Junior Olympic Long Course Championships.

NCA has not only enjoyed great overall team success, but also all of the great NCA champions got their start at the Junior Olympics before moving on to achieve national and international success. These athletes included NCA’s Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Grote, and current NCA National Team member, Kendyl Stewart who recently finished 3rd in the 100 meter butterfly and this summer’s USA Swimming Olympic Trials.
