NCA 11-12 Boys Post Best Times in Country

Nation-leading times in the 11-12 boys 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays highlighted the 2016 Summer Long Course Junior Olympics for North Coast Aquatics. NCA competed through four days of thrilling competition at the Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex in sunny Coronado, California July 29 – 31st.

155 swimmers represented NCA in their green caps, capturing the team competition by 2,000 points over the second place team. Four NCA swimmers took home high point winner awards: Nathaniel Parsons and Lucius Brown tied for 11-12 boys, Connor Mes for 13-14 boys, and Kalie Novosedliak for 15 – 18 girls.

NCA swimmers also made history with 10 new JO records and 4 SI records. Lucius Brown made his mark in the history books with 3 individual records (50M free, 26.94, 100M free, 58.22, and 200M free, 2.08.94) and combined with Lan Zhu, Braden Ellis and Nathaniel Parsons to establish a new SI record in the 11-12 boys 200M freestyle relay. Their time of 1.50.62 is currently the top time in the United States (USASwimming.org, as of 8/3/2016). The same group of boys also raced to the fastest time in the country in the 200 medley relay with a 2:02.48 and the second-fastest time in the nation this year in the 400 freestyle relay. Lan, Braden, and Lucius will be representing San Diego-Imperial swimming at the Western Zones meet starting this Thursday in Salt Lake City, Utah.

North Coast girls won 14 events, four of them relays, and returned one or more swimmers for every single night swim in the finals and/or consolation finals. Kalie Novosedliak tallied four individual victories in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500M freestyles, as well as a fourth-place finish in the 400IM en route to an individual high point winner award. She also joined teammates Allison Liu, Halan Pham and Mia Ryan to win the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:04.32.

“Winning our 19th out of the last 20 Junior Olympic Summer Championships was a great effort by all the NCA swimmers who contributed to the team title” says Head Coach Jeff Pease. “Scoring over 5000 points, a feat that has only been accomplished 3 times in our storied history is a testament to the depth of our age groups program. Kudos to my staff for preparing our swimmers so well and to our swimmers for stepping up and performing so consistently over this 4 day championship. The future looks bright for NCA!”
